About Dr. Lauren Armstrong

Less stuck. More like yourself.

I work with people who are stuck inside lives that look like they're working

You might be the high-functioning one, the person everyone counts on, the one who makes it look easy while quietly running on empty. You may have a deep understanding of your trauma and clearly see how it's still shaping you today.

If you're a parent, you might be watching your teen struggle and not sure how to help.

Whatever brought you here, most of the people I work with arrive with the same thing in common: they can name what's wrong but naming it hasn't been enough to change it.

That's where we come in together. We’ll work toward less anxiety in your body, less reactivity in your relationships, and more room to actually live the way you've been trying to.

my story

I'm Dr. Lauren

I've always been the person trying to understand why people are the way they are

Long before I knew this would be my career, I was the one asking questions. Why doesn’t what we know in our heads always match how we live? Why do two people from the same family turn out so differently? What is it about certain moments that finally let something land, when others don’t?

That curiosity led me into psychology, and it didn’t stop there. I trained clinically, and I kept exploring the same questions through other lenses too, somatics, philosophy, spiritual traditions. Different languages, but the same thread underneath. Who are you, really? What’s getting in the way? And what would it look like to feel more free in your own life?

Those are the questions we work with together. We start with what’s bringing you in, and where it’s useful, we can widen the lens. Not just to understand what’s going on, but to help something actually shift.

What I find meaningful about
this work

The moments I love most are quiet ones, when something a client has known intellectually for years finally lands in their body, the bracing softens, the grip loosens, and something they've been holding for a long time gets set down.

You don't need more to think about; you've got plenty already. What I care about is what it takes for the things you already understand to actually land in your day-to-day life.

You don't have to leave any part of yourself out

I have a unique ability to:

Pick up on patterns quickly, including the ones that haven't quite been named yet.
Hold both the healing work and the part of you that already senses what's true, in the same conversation.
Be honest with you in a way that feels grounded, not heavy.
Build the work around you, instead of fitting you into a version of therapy that wasn't really meant for you.

People who know me often say I have a way of uncovering what matters.
My clients tell me they feel both deeply met and gently moved forward.

I've been in practice for 11 years, including time as a Clinical Director leading and supervising a team of therapists. Most of that time has been with teens, young adults, and high-functioning professionals who can articulate exactly what's happening to them and still feel stuck inside it.

In sessions, I draw from the modalities listed above depending on what you're bringing in. The throughline is the same regardless of approach: I'm tracking patterns, noticing what's still in the way of the changes you're trying to make, and working with you to keep moving them forward.

Sometimes that looks more cognitive, sometimes more body-based, and sometimes it's quieter than that, slowing down enough to listen for what your own system is already telling you.

FAQs

What does a first session with you look like?

We'll spend the first session getting a fuller picture of what's bringing you in, what you've tried before, and what would actually feel like progress to you. It's also a chance for you to feel out how I work and ask anything you want to ask.

How long do clients typically work with you?

It varies. Some people come in for a defined piece of work over a few months. Others want longer-term work. We'll figure out the right shape together as we go, and I'll be honest with you about what I think you need.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Yes, I offer in person sessions in Newport Beach, California at 260 Newport Center Drive Newport Beach 92660. I also offer virtual sessions across California over secure video.

What if I'm interested in the more spiritual side of your work?

That's welcome, and it's also optional. We can weave it in or leave it out. If you want to know more about how that side of the work runs, my Spiritual Therapy page goes into detail.

Do you work with people who've already done a lot of therapy?

Often, yes. A lot of who I work with is people who've already done their own thinking and are ready for what comes after thinking.
